Just had some small hail rattle through with the latest cell.

As I look east to the Pennines Alphin Pike and Black Hill on Saddleworth moor are not visible and there is frequent lightning over there, not great for hill walking!

Just popped outside for a while, and I can hear a constant rumbling of distant thunder - very eerie.  No lightning seen as yet but it's getting increasingly dark and feels very humid.

Constant thunder, which is very loud at times for over half an hour with lightning and heavy rain.  Our Sky box went off and then we had a power cut.  Both are back on now and the rain is easing but we still have the constant thunder and flashes.  Hubby suggests this must be a record length of thunder.  This is exciting stuff!!

What are the odds for activity in Stoke again this evening? Sky seems very ominous but everything is over Nottingham etc. Back to this mornings storm and the 15 minutes or so I was awake for it were tremendous. The gun shot thunder woke us up as we had the windows open and my first response was 'I best let the cat in!'. The rain was monsoon for a period. I'm intrigued at what time it kicked off as I only awoke about 5.45.

We've had thunder and lightning since about 9pm yesterday, except for a couple of hours this afternoon when the sun came out and it got very warm.  This current spell has just been constant but it is brightening up a little in the West now, so it is moving over.

I think that's it for here today, unless I get another wake up call later tonight  they must be moving away from this side of Pennines too as I can see the summits now....

This thunder has been constant for at least an hour.  We have some very odd cloud movement now too.  A very dark upper layer is slowly moving North East and there is now a much quicker moving lower layer heading in a Westerly direction.

Look at all those storms breaking out over the far north of England and Scotland.. yet nothing at all here. What an unmitigated disaster this entire 'event' has turned out to be. Sooner it's over the better.

I thought it was dying down but it's intensifying again.  Is it possible we're propogating our own storms?  Or has the wind changed direction because it seems to be coming from the South East now.

I have to say that amber warning given by the met office has been largely a dud. A lot of places in that area didn't get any rain let alone thunder.

On the whole, a disappointing day.

According to the wife the lightning flashes kicked off at around 23.30 last night and said it was continual bright flashes mainly to the west and northwest with nothing overhead, as i reported in my earlier post the lightning at 04.00 was as she stated continual without gaps between flashes, again to the west and northwest with nothing overhead. I do find it strange though that no one on here in this area witnessed what must have been some pretty violent electrical storms. UserPostedImage

She was amazed that my area missed the storm just 10 mls to the South. Just shows how local these beasts can be.
