New warnings out from MetO. A bit of catch-up being played, as might be expected in such a dynamic situation.

Looking at the radar, it seems dificult to see signs of any French imports coming in overnight, with continental storm developments seemingly too far east to affect the UK.

However, it is interesting to see that the Met Office's forcast map for rainfall continues to suggest that things could once again pep up in the early hours: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/#?tab=map&map=Rainfall&fcTime=1374566400&zoom=6&lon=-4.00&lat=51.53

I'm not expecting a repeat of last night's intensity, it'll be interesting to see if and how these develop.

As one storm drifts away flashing to the NW of Edinburgh a new cell is flashing away to the SSW, lightning looks brighter now its going dark. Just look at the last few hours explosive development over Cumbria, southern and central Scotland!!

Its very still and humid with low lying mist over fields and wooded areas

We've had a full 24 hours of almost continous thunder storms, apart from a couple of hours early afternoon when the sun came out and it got very warm.  It's stopped raining for the moment but I can still hear distant thunder and the sky still looks threatening.  I'm pleased to say that despite all the rain, we have no flooding locally.  The roads have turned to rivers at times but it's all managed to drain away nicely.

We had lots of lightning and thunder here between 6pm & 8pm!,  albeit with very little rain.   Just had some more lightning recently.

This has been one of the most thundery days in recent years here, although we've only had about 8mm of rain in total today.

I thought I'd miss out up here until this mornings fireworks and now there is lightning in all directions lighting up the Edinburgh night sky, there are small cells building within a larger area of thundery rain I think, could be a noisy night!

It's gone a little quiet here now but I don't think we've seen the last of the storms because the sky is by no means clear.

Avoided everything here.  Not a  drop of rain and just some distant thunder yesterday evening.  Quite amazing really considering the activity all around us.

Cracking storms here this evening. Had to help a neighbour clear the drains to limit the water running down the hill straight into his place. Unbelievable amounts of rain (wish I could give a measurement!), fork lightening and the loudest rumbles of thunder I've heard in the UK for years! Flash flooding in nearby Croglin and it is a very muggy 19.4c now. Started the day with thunder and lightening as well so all in all, lovely stuff! Not the flooding I hasten to add!! But no significant damage done I don't think...

A bit late but i thought i would mention the storm we had here 7-8pm last night.

I was in Manchester at the time so missed it all  bloody typical, sat watching the rainfall totting up rapidly on my phone.

It in fact delivered 26mm of rain in that hour with a peak rate of 113mm/hr, bringing the days rain to 35.8mm.

you know George you are absolutely spot on mate with that statement , i dunno if the internet has ruined the suprise element of storms as back in the day the radio gave me the clue the louder the crackles were on MW the nearer the storm. something has inherintely changed as i remember many summer storms which were all nighters and even the ones that were'nt one was often woke up by loud thunder circa 4am. in them days they did drift due North from France .something that is very rare thesdays . would love to do a case study on this but my 7 children keep me busy thesedays . maybe when im retired i will . regards .
