I wouldn't rule out Australia winning this test, then carrying on the momentum to take the series 3-2.

I think this place would go in to melt down if it happened, there would be a national holiday and a tiker tape parade down Geroge Street Sydney!

All Australia really need now is probably one more good morning session and they will avoid defeat in this test. The first hour is critical to England chances of winning, 3 or 4 quick wickets would throw it wide open again. I will watch the first hour tonight and if it looks like more of the same from Australia then I will switch off until Saturday night Aussie time when England will be closer to batting.

No early breakthrough

If, as seems likely, the convicts nab a draw here, it'll be like them winning the series to them.

If England conspire to lose this (and, given the sometime woefully fragile mental strength of teh England batting line up, it's not impossible), there'd likely be scenes of national celebration in Aus. And we will have failed in our mission to humiliate them.

A couple of quick wickets. I still think a draw is likely here*

What a complete waste of a review that was! Can only assume he really didnt think he'd edged it because completely wasting a review like that isnt good for the team if they get a stinker of a decision later on.

Excellent knock by Clarke so far , he will be wanting the Aussies to get to 450 at least

This is why I assumed Tremlett would play. Obviously the selectors decided to take him out of his strict fitness regime at his county to carry drinks out 🙄

Whats the odds that as soon as England do get in the bat the balls starts spinning and swinging every which way

I think once Australia hit 500 a declaration won't be too far in coming, no advantage in Australia batting on much after that.

You can see that the orders from the Aussie management is to get a shift on.

This is one of those occasions when a four man bowling attack is proving to be a clear limitation.

Swann takes 5-fer, whilst the quicks struggle to get any movement.

But Cook doesn't bowl Root????

Oh, and the last two days show why talk of Jimmy Anderson being the best bowler of his generation are bobbins.

Aussies look good for 600 here. Half expect England to bottle it tonight and end up 80 for 4.

How many wickets will England lose tonight and will Cook survive?

The best bowlers don't need conditions to favour them - they take wickets regardless. Anderson has looked toothless these past two days. Dale Steyn manages to be succesful no matter whether it's swinging or not.

I'm incredibly disappointed in how this Test has panned out. I want abject humiliation for the convicts.

Now let's see how we bat under scoreboard pressure. We have not generally batted that well this series so far despite the 2-0 scoreline.- if we carry on giving wickets away as we have in the first two Tests then we will be going to Durham at 2-1.

As for today - we cannot afford to lose more than one wicket tonight.
