Just 19.8mm this month (of which 2.6mm has fallen today). Driest month of the summer so far.

June 20.6mm
July 24.6mm
Aug 19.8mm

Total summer 2013 65.0mm (44% of the long run mean)

A very dry summer indeed this year. Only slightly wetter than 2006 which saw 57.8mm.

Every month in 2013 has seen below average rainfall here apart from March.

For 2013 South East England was on course to see its sixth driest summer on record since 1873. It looked like we would come in ahead of 1911.

However, yesterday's rain may have spolit that. Will have to wait and see what the total comes in at but it push 2013 outside the top 10 driest summers.

Driest summers in the Hadley SEEP (South-East England precipitation) series:

1976  55.6mm
1995  56.4mm
1921  59.7mm
1949  78.1mm
2013  79.6mm (to 23rd Aug)
1975  80.2mm
1911  89.3mm

This pattern is fairly similar across much of the UK this summer. For example rainfall in Scotland means this summer could be not far off the top 10 driest on record as well.

No measurable rain for over a week, so my final total is 53.8mm which is a little below the average for this area - which is around 66mm for August.

And I've recorded the driest Summer here since 1996.  Final Summer 2013 total came to 126mm.   The 8th driest Summer in the last 30 years here.
