Updated watches out for heavy, thundery rain, torrential downpours.

Looks impressive down south on Net radar.

Just been out to have a look as you can't beat a good oggle.
We have a moderate eastelry flow under an upper southerly flow.
Mid-level instability is evident with abundant alto-stratus 'striations' and layered structure. To the south over the Channel it's very dark.
On radar that area west of Caen looks particulalry interesting.

The radar returns look heavy but all told it is uninspiring. With the odd rumble of Thunder
nothing to report. It's like a wet Sunday.

I think most of it passed to my West and East, 4.2mm fell this morning and the sun is now out. Might get some more totals from some  thundery showers later.

Looks like they've got the timing all wrong again. Some very heavy stuff nudging the south now though.

It's quarter to 11 and still nowhere near here let alone clearing into the afternoon.

But as I say, not a criticism this time, just an observation. I am fully aware the timing on systems like this isn't at all easy.

On the radar it looks like a breakaway area of rain with a quite heavy blob at its core is heading straight for London.

Points West Forecast doesn't include Devon and Cornwall, so no, although the MetO is indeed for the whole SW, which I don't count this area as being. I'll never understand how a forecast for Gloucestershire is lumped in with a peninsula hundreds of miles away.

But like I said a few times, just an observation. As Gaz has pointed out its moving fast.

It will ease quite quickly from the South over the next hour or so. What follows is anyone's guess but I don't see anything too bothersome over Somerset or Dorset.
