20 years ago, there was an Arctic plunge that brought early snowfalls and severe frosts for the time of the year

Forecasts from 15th to 17th October 1993

I remember the Sunday morning of this period being very frosty, -4.3C at Manchester Airport and 4 consecutive air frosts. It was also brilliantly sunny as well.

I've a job to get the 48 hour snowfest blizzard with thunder & lightning of 82 out of my mind (South Wales & West Country)

We were racing to complete new cattle housing, the aim had been to be fully ready for the last week of October at latest - things had to be rushed along quicker than expected!

There was a further very wintry spell in November that year.
The RAC rally as it was then had to abandon some stages due to a foot or more of snow.
