We live about 10 miles away, but no more than really heavy rain here at that time.

Some interesting weather down towards southsea fair ground area. I work near by and our early morning clearner said there was a storm around 7am and at one point all the doors and windows started to rattle badly - this only lasted about a minute or so. They went out back to find all the trollies out side had toppled over... these things weigh in over 60kg. Could have been a downburst or tornado.

I reckon it was probably just a micro burst/ down draft that hit by my work. Very little evidence when I inspected after my shift that would suggest a tornado. No tiles or big branches snapped.

Being next to the sea most of the tree's have been put to the test against strong winds - natural selection lol. Any sudden burst of 60/70/80 mph winds would do very little damage to them, but would rattle doors and windows and possibly blow over heavy trollies.

Maybe Hayling did have a tornado... But not Portsmouth.

For information, my colleague Tony Gilbert did a site investigation on Hayling yesterday morning.
Initial assessment suggests a narrow waterspout came ashore near the old coastguard station on the SE corner of Hayling at about 7.15am, and morphed into a decent tornado as it skipped NE, N then NE again before exiting into Chichester Harbour.
The tornado maxed at about 30m wide and caused highish end T2 damage (a few walls down, trees snapped, fences damaged and even the expected trampolines moved into neighbours gardens). Estimated wind vectors to be around 80mph at peak intensity. In the enhanced fujita scale this system would be classified as just about an EF1.
The radar images (07.25) would support a tornadic structure with what looks like a bit of an inflow notch under the main cell.

We have a risk this evening for significant storm development with possible tornados mainly but not exclusively in the S and SW from 18Z to 06Z Weds.

A strengthening jet overiding a moist and unstable airmass will promote impressive directional and velocity shear parameters which should encourage vorticity from the surface up. With any discrete cells watch out for low-level rotation.

Just had a very heavy shower gone through here.  A churning motion seen in some of the clouds as they passed over.

Looking lively to my SW, local forecasters are going for thunderstorms overnight, loos like a trough out W as well.

Agree that there are some nice parameters knocking around for the overnight period, chance of some organised line development further N as well.

Could be a very turbulent night for Southern England as conditions are primed for widespread deep convection and squally winds and to enhance things more a deep trough will pass in the early hours. Many places will probably see at least distant lightning and probably more for a few. It is also conceivable that an isolated waterspout or small tornado could affect Southern Coastal Counties East of Dorset through the night giving the risk of localised damage.
