For information, my colleague Tony Gilbert did a site investigation on Hayling yesterday morning.
Initial assessment suggests a narrow waterspout came ashore near the old coastguard station on the SE corner of Hayling at about 7.15am, and morphed into a decent tornado as it skipped NE, N then NE again before exiting into Chichester Harbour.
The tornado maxed at about 30m wide and caused highish end T2 damage (a few walls down, trees snapped, fences damaged and even the expected trampolines moved into neighbours gardens). Estimated wind vectors to be around 80mph at peak intensity. In the enhanced fujita scale this system would be classified as just about an EF1.
The radar images (07.25) would support a tornadic structure with what looks like a bit of an inflow notch under the main cell.
