Looking at the Radar sequence for the past few hours the thunderstorm reached its greatest intensity over Wigton at about 20:30 before fading quickly as it moved over Carlisle (hence rain only in Brampton).
The thunder and lightning I could see and hear from Plumpton will have been that over Wigton as its only 8 miles away.
Several reports today of thunderstorms in the Lake District as well, these Irish Sea showers have really been packing a punch.
As I said before thunderstorms in late Autumn are not unheard of in Cumbria, although still unusa,l but having one coincide with a dark Halloween evening is a first for me
The kids will have loved it.
