Top gust at Mumbles head yesterday 1800 was 143 km/h (nearly 90 mph), and gusts over 100 km/h for a 7-hour period.

So not quite as wild as St Jude (99mph at IoW) but definitely more prolonged. I reckon it merited an amber warning, especially as the depression had been on e.g. GFS charts as an intense feature for a week.

Wind is due to increase further this afternoon locally. Local forecast from 0700 to 1900 :-

West 6 to 7, locally gale 8 with gusts to 50kt in the north at first, backing south by evening, increasing 7 to gale 8, veering southwest to west 7 to severe 9 with gusts to 55kt overnight, veering northwest 5 to 6 later.

Looking forward to it backing around to the South, it has been quite noisy and the wind from the South gives me a bit of a lee.

Combine that with a rising spring tide and that may give the local council a bit of a headache with shingle being washed onto seafront paths and roads.

Yes, it certainly looks like a wet and windy night across some southern parts tonight - again.

It is still very unsettled here and constant strong winds, nothing exceptional just very disturbed.

Very windy for a time tonight across southern coasts and also to some extent inland both to the north of the low centre and immediately ahead and behind the low as it moves through.

20-25mm of rain for many as well

The Met Office yellow warning has just been updated

A developing area of low pressure is expected to run quickly eastwards across southern England overnight Sunday into early Monday bringing widespread rain across southern Britain which will be heavy in places. Rainfall accumulations will typically be between 10 and 20 mm and locally around 30 mm. It will also become windy in southern counties, but more particularly along exposed coasts where gales may develop for a time during Sunday evening and the early hours of Monday, giving gusts of 50 to 60 mph.

Yep - NAE brings some very hefty rain across the south during 6-12pm period.

Could also get a bit rough in the Channel with some strong gusts as the developing LP sweeps through at pace.

The GFS model seemed to have firmed up on the idea of another round of widespread strong to gale force winds associated with a deepening "parent" low pressure system to Southern and Western parts for next weekend (again, during the night!) and then gale-force northerlies to the Eastern side of the UK as that low pressure trundles onto the North Sea on Sunday.
But that has little support from the other members (they are all showing roughly bog-standard westerlies) so best not to lose too much sleep over that one for now.

One of those times where we can't really take anything beyound 48 hours as gospel what with our weather being this unsettled.

999.9 mb and now falling away. Incredible to think that in the next 7 hours the pressure is going to drop down to something like 982mb here.

I am also awaitng a quick rise in T2M..Currently 9.3c. It could climb to 14/15c for a time in the early hours before the colder polar airmass sweeps south.

Interesting hours ahead...Autumn at its very best.
