Yes, that's what I would call a very narrow escape. But what's got me thinking is how they weren't aware of the storm risk in the first place. Would have thought a decent paraglider would observe CAPE, upper air, dewpoints, life indexes , etc readings beforehand.

It was probably why they were in the air to begin with, what with all that free lift.  i actually watched the youtube clip about it and the people said at first it was a regular cloud, but developed very rapidly - so rapidly it sucked several gliders straight in.  I think we can all appreciate how quickly a storm can develop - sometimes right under our noses without knowing.

I remember seeing a tv programme about that incident a couple of years back...she was incredibly lucky to survive
