I did wonder about that when I heard the news but more along the lines that it could have been the heavy rain, if the roof had a leak it could have let through enough water to weaken the ceiling?

Showers in the Irish sea producing quite a lot of sferics. Interesting day ahead for some.

Lightning strike and loud clapp of thunder caused power to surge a few minutes ago and the radar looks nasty to my west.

Very seasonal!

There seems to be a rash of thundery activity running from around Luton and up through the Midlands (Leicester) through Notts and up through Sheffield until Leeds.......
Thats via Mobile Storm on Android, Blitzortung shows none of the above activity, but it does show a little activity over Northern Scotland and the Southerness of Republic of Ireland??
One or two reports on here from a couple of locations, are both the above Lightning sites correct? Possible differences in time stamps?
Anyone verify?

All eyes in the short term on the air mass trough now approaching Wales and the SW. A lot of thundery activity in there and a classic squall signature on the radar on the leading edge

Net radar looks impressive out west with a band of locally torrential rain and thunderstorms mixed n moving NE.

Second thunderstorm of the day. Hail squally winds and some truly awful conditions outside.

Recent close and distant lightning here this morning. A rather 'wavy' sharp trough with an interesting feature on the IOW just now.

Taken from today's ESTOFEX outlook:

In all indicated thunder areas there is a threat of damaging winter lightning to tall structures due to their stronger current strokes

Now there's something I didn't know - note to oneself: Find out why.

The cold front did get into squall line mode across parts of the south late in the afternoon but the frontal wave has stopped that process for now. As the wave passes the front could well become an active squall which won't help things one bit.
