Very confusing update of warnings going on. Looks like an Amber warning for the winds overnight in the SE, but graphics are all over the place:

Yes but the NAE actually has the 928mb isobar crossing land, which would be pretty close to a UK record if verified. Worth keeping an eye on the obs from Stornoway. Is there still an official Met station at the Butt of Lewis, as that would be a couple of mb lower...?

Edit: the warnings map once again looks like it was downe by the chimp in my avatar pic. There is an amber warning for wind (from 00:05 tomorrow) but the symbol isn't even attached to the right area on the map!

The Met Office catches on. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?tab=map&regionName=se (EDIT: Just spotted a couple of posts further up).

As the old cliche goes . . . batten down the hatches and hope that damage will be kept at a minimum. I can handle the strong winds, it's those horrible gusty bits as the cold front passes over us in the early hours that will set my teeth on edge.

Be safe, everyone.

Just been out with the dog beside the Tone. Seen a beech tree uprooted, which is quite impressive - usually just a mast snaps off. Electricity keeps cutting out for a few seconds. Chimneys, fireplace and woodburner generating an excellent array of noises.

The persistence of the heavy rain is notable. When the river bursts its banks, I can see the flooding persisting for a long time as this rain keeps working its way down from the hills.

Most exciting storm for yonks.

The 06Z EURO4 has markedly reduced the rain totals in southern England.

I`m surprised there isn`t a weather warning for wind today, given the strong winds here, I know there`s one for tomorrow now.

Is there anywhere I can get the current sea level pressure, I`m trying to reset the barometer on my weather station. The met office readings are around half an hour behind, which is no use while the pressure is faling so rapidly.

Or if you have to do it today, could you make a note of your barometer reading on the hour, then when the official reading comes out for that time you can make a note of the difference and adjust accordingly?

Wind really howling out there at the moment, not too bad in the garden as the houses are sheltering the worst, saying that one of my sheds has just lost the felt from one side, higher up away fron the shelter it's really shifting. the rain isn't so bad at the mo, 6mm since the start at around 08.30.

Just got back from a bit of last minute shopping

Recent gusts here 12 miles inland already peaking >50mph.
The zone of concern in this region is 23Z to 01Z Tues ahead and adjacent to CF. I can see downward propagating convective bursts delivering >80mph especailly but not exclusively near the coast.

The area at greatest risk IMO is east of here - if I was in Sussex or S Kent I would be taking the usual precautions (gaden stuff away, etc) as an active CF phasing with the exit region could easily allow surface level bursts of 90mph.

Radio4 12:58 forecast for overnight tonight is 80mph gusts on the south coast east of the Isle of Wight, 60-70mph gusts inland.

And the 1.00pm news led with the weather conditions and the power cuts in the southwest.

(Edit to add support of report of Medway in Tonbridge being bank-full already.  I guess the flood barrier will be in operation soon.)

Gusts 75-85mph likely on exposed coasts. 65-75mph more generally
