It's moderately breezy here in Manchester - but this regions seems to be out of the firing line of the really strong winds.

Some quite vicious echoes heading across the West Country now.

That would seem to be the most likely explanation.

The power is flickering...

A 2m long branch has mysteriously materialised in next door's garden. It looks nothing like any of the trees in that garden, which means to get there it must have risen about 4m off the ground to clear the fence and make its entrance!

The rainfall is relentless, moderate with some heavy bursts. The squall line on the radar looks ominous... latest obs reveal a marked drop in the wind gusts behind it, meanwhile they are increasing all the time ahead of it.

71mph gust at Solent MRSC in the 3pm reports.

Loads of rain and flooding around the centre of Bristol. Bugger all in the way of wind though, which justifies the yellow warnings after Essan's moaning yesterday 😉

259mph sustained winds reported at Cork Airport

Darkness is descending now... won't get to capture the winds along that squall front

I filmed a bit outside but the winds are so unpredictable... typically a particularly strong gust occured just after I stopped capturing footage

It's horrible here, wheelie bins flying around as winds funnels around side of buildings, etc.

And yet the worst is yet to come for tonight at 1 am to 4 am.

Not liking it at all. Sorry.

If the roof is still attached to my house this time tomorrow than I will consider myself lucky - or am I worrying too much?

Looking at these charts if you hover your cursor through the series you can see there will be a brief lull this evening in the south before a renewed burst of even stronger winds around midnight.

Really picked up the last hour or so.

Looking at all the maps I can find,  I reckon windiest period for me will be 2200 to 0200. And the worst looks like the extreme SE where the isobars really seem to pile up as the front moves across. We might just be on the edge of it here. You're in the fireing line ATM going by current models.
