KFRS took over 600 weather related calls last night! I've just been out to another fire in Ramsgate (had to take a diversion due to unsafe building), and crews were telling me they've been absolutely non-stop. They've had to send Fire Officers in their cars to some incidents, because they just didn't have enough pumps available.

As things stand right now, Kent Police have reportedly declared the countywide flooding a major incident, and as such, Firefighters taking part in tonight's planned strike action, have been recalled.

Latest report is that parts of Tonbridge Town Centre are being evacuated due to serious flooding.

But keep up the good work, but be safe all the same.

Over in East Kent, most of the problems are from last night's wind, with quite a few unsafe structures being dealt with.

Countywide, power is also out to thousands at the moment - we'll respond to that if vulnerable people are involved.

Sorry to hear that Clare. I read a message on the BBC earlier that UK Power Networks were apparently offering to provide Christmas lunch for those without power (if there was availability on local restaurants) but I am not sure what the details are or if that had been verified.

"1407: Some potential good news for those facing the prospect of Christmas Day with no electricity. UK Power Networks - supplier to millions in southern and eastern England - is offering to pay for their Christmas dinner. They're asking local restaurants and pubs with spare tables to email [email protected] or call 0800 028 0959. Some 56,000 households supplied by the company are still without electricity."

That will mean less shuting of windows and foil to insulate in summer then Jiries and maybe an extra hour in the shed.

We've had discussions with them about removing it for years. It really is far too large for a suburban garden. I just hope the damage to their property is minimal.

I don't get it. Today I've observed extensive surface water flooding and numerous impassable fords, plus one of the roads out of town was impassable due to flooding, AND there were several flooded properties - it's the worst I've seen since 2002...

...yet there is no flood warning here, not even an alert, for the tributaries south of Salisbury or groundwater flooding.

Many journeys would have been diverted during planning with the right information. I believe the Environment Agency has failed this region today.

Why no amber warning for NE Scotland today?
According to the Beeb news feed Peterhead and Inverbervie recorded the strongest winds - in the East not just the West as forecast. It was clearly dreadful on both sides of the country, but this area should have had amber too on that basis...
Edinburgh was a close third, and again in the East...

The winds have picked up considerably now in NE Scotland. I have no measuring devices other that the roar which has to be heard to be beleived. Power was lost earlier in the afternoon, but returned within the hour which leads me to suspect we only suffered a short outage as part of someone elses much longer outage and our outage was a "switch off" rather than a fault.

I really feel for all those who's Xmas is ruined by this storm and those who are stuck at LGW as the staff retreat to be replaced by police
