New Year's Day 1995 with Rob McElwee

Saw snow New Year's Eve in the morning, it was a very cold frosty midnight. New Year's Day morning saw snow showers coming off the Irish Sea then a cold sunny afternoon.

It was the start of what was a memorable year of weather.

I seem to remember there being lots of freezing conditions and flurries then, it all ending with freezing rain that coated the hills 40mm thick with ice.

This would be the one where a lot of pipes froze in premises such as industrial estates unattended with little or no heating through the Xmas/New Year break.
In the New Year there were so many burst pipes that Newcastle among others ran out of water as the local network was draining faster than it could be topped up.
