Just caught the core of a downpour with rain rates of 40-50mm/hr.

Some notable hail mixed in but nothing compared to what DeeDee caught! Looks like the cell had peaked over Ferndown, dropping most of its hail there perhaps...?

That stuff moving through the western Channel has a few features with my name on them - anticipating those with some excitement. Shame about the flooding consequences though - nothing I can do about that though, other than assisting with some sandbags should that be required.

I witnessed some really intense rain and hail at around 08.30/09.00 this morning with some lightning and earthumping claps of thunder, nice start to the new year.

I can now join in with this thread by saying how we just had a cheeky thunder shower pass by us. There were probably two or three flashes and a few rumbles along with some squally rain with some hail mixed in it.

But it actually wasn't a particularly memorable storm, quite fleeting in nature and it's now become quite still again (am surprised by the lack of any real wind all day).

But, even so, to get lightning in winter is a surprise treat in itself and I'm more than happy to have missed out on the gusty winds so far today.

EDIT: It's become quite squally again.

Another pretty squally shower marching through here just now. Sounds worse than it is I thinnk, with the rain being hammered against the windows (now watch my phone go, with a call out in the middle of it!)

Heard several rumbles of thunder here early this afternoon, as a cell just passed by to the NW; we didn't get the heavy rain or hail, and stormy winds at the time, just ordinary showery rain following the storm.

I would'nt be surprised if there were funnel clouds or even tornadoes in the heaviest of the showers today.

A marked squall line has just been crossing Belgium and Netherlands, with lots of lightning!
