I was waiting in anticipation for an undercutting low.

It looked far from promising for a while as temperatures rose above freezing overnight but Neil (NSRobins) assured me of a dry intrusion ahead of the frontal systems, lowering dewpoints and assuring we got snow.

Sure enough it went sub-zero just after dawn on the 18th in fresh SE winds and we were treated to heavy powder snow that eased during the day but gave several inches of cover

Much different to this year sadly but it may be a time to reminisce in here!

According to my records, we had some snow by that weekend but I remember how I felt a bit underwhelmed by it as 2 to 6 cm of powdery-type snow settled by the end of Sunday. But, hey, it was far, far more than what could be said for this winter so far!
Of course, it wasn't the only snow event of that winter anyway.

We had about 3 inches on the 18th then another 5 inches on the 20th. An amazing spell of snow for London.

Was the start of a two & half month spell of bitterly cold weather that lasted well into April, save for a couple of milder interludes.
