M6 Bloxwich road weather station, just north of junction 10 reported a fall in road surface temperature from 7.5 degrees at 1420 to -1.3 degrees at 1430, presumably due to hail on the road, then popped back up to 4.4 degrees by 1440 !

This is one of the most inaccurately forecast events I can recall; even the Met Office 'forecaster-modified' output didn't show the front holding together quite so well across more southern parts of the UK, although it was certainly a lot closer than GFS and EURO-4 with both failed miserably.

Even the modified output had the wrong general idea though; it showed the front splitting into two, with some going east and some sliding SE.

GFS and EURO-4 did not slide the system SE much at all. To be fair though, I am also surprised at just how much southward movement there is on the feature.

Yea, the rain band seemed ro stretch sideways as it hit Leicester, thin over Leicester fatter at both ends, but it seemed to spring-back and the central thin area bulked up and now is the dominating aspect... It was very angry as it swept overhead and off south, south east..
Is there anymore heading our way this evening? Nothing on the rain radar to angry looking at the moment....

Underwhelming here - very dark, squally winds, and some moderate rain. No thunder, hail, etc.

Not much rain here but the wind was something else. I am in a very sheltered situation but a short time ago I recorded a gust of 38mph which is the strongest gust I have ever recorded - stronger than anything in the storms just before Christmas.

Another weather station in Basingstoke in a less sheltered location recorded a gust of 57mph

A tree is down blocking the train lines at Andover and another blocking the lines between Micheldever and Winchester.

That was some squall line.

Gracious me- that was ferocious! - strongest winds of the autumn/winter - our trampoline, loaded inside with various other garden toys to weight it down - was picked up and thrown 60 feet down the garden, and only the front hawthorn hedge stopped it from being blown onto the road... most of the felt on the shed roof is now wrapped around trees, and the temperature drop was incredible. Hail, torrential rain, and I can now see lightning off to the East as it runs towards Petersfield...beware, everyone!

Well, that was spectacular. From calm to 51mph gusts in a minute. Lots of thunder, lightning, hail and rain. Power went off for a minute at the peak of it, so I haven't got any peak readings but there's still heavy rain, with thunder and lightning flashes to the south.

Squall has passed. Lightning, thunder and hail and a big drop in temperature, 9.5c at 16:50 to 4.9c at 17:02.

Edit: 60mph wind gust at Kenley airfield, a mile or so away, only 26.5mph here (sheltered)

Wll that was worth watching! Best we've had for a long time. Short lived, but incredible rain, plus a good few strikes. Saw 1 direct strike about a mile away. Just waiting for my phone to go now, with a call out!

Feeling cheated here. Very little rain at all but the winds were fierce as it passed. Reports of hail and SLW damage a few miles to my SW

Intense squall with hail thunder and lightning. Everyting outside was screaming and for a couple of minutes it felt likethe air was trying to be sucked out of the house. I wouldn't be at all surprised if there was some tornadic activity embeded.
