Having been out to walk the dog I would say it is closer to just rain but I think there is a bit of ice in it.

After a stunning winters day yesterday, with well broken cloud, blue sky, blue sea and white, snow capped mountains, today is also look pretty good. It's a bit warmer than yesterday and perhaps a touch more cloud, but I can see blue sky and it's calm. So, hopefully another nice day in store

Despite the continental feed, it is dull and wet where 5.1 mm of rain has fallen since midnight and is still raining now. Also a fresh SE wind is making the current temperature of 5.1 C feel a lot colder than it needs to be.

It would only take a tiny tweak in wind direction and dewpoints and perhaps, just perhaps the outcome would be different . . .

Same as...same as.....2 months of grey, damp gloom with temperatures between 3-9 C now up here after a lovely sunny October and November.

Its the same again today but its chilly grey damp gloom rather than normal grey damp gloom! Energy sapping!

I will point out that we are very lucky not to have had too much storm damage up here and no flooding in Edinburgh so far so thankful for that! 

I was thinking the same Ian. I was lamenting the fact this morning to a friend at work. He is desperate for snow, as I am, both snowboarders and love cold weather. It looks like a streamer of some sort may even set up (bbc weather graphics for overnight), but it will not be cold enough for it to be snow.

Cold, wet, grey and breezy here. The rain feels icy and it is all rather unpleasant, I am hoping for a small tweak in the right direction!
