There was some snow to the higher parts of Sheffield this morning, rain at the lower levels.

That was one mega party!

(Incidentally my phone weather app is now showing a snow symbol for Thursday - a very rare sight this winter! (I think it showed up once in November but soon disappeared...)

Driven back from Basingstoke to Alton. Sleet falling in Basingstoke when I left and proper wet snow at 500ft ASL around Herriard and Lasham on the A339. Sleet continued at lower levels until I reached Alton where it was much lighter and consequently just rain. Bloody typical!

It would seem that the 'peak' of this wintry spell occured around that time when 925Hpa's fell to 0c. This morning with 925Hpa's back to +2c there is now no chance of witnessing such excitement. It's +4.6c this morning, the coldest period in this cold spell was at 11pm when the T2M temperature fell back to 3.8c.

What a winter !

No idea if there was snow embedded in the rain here at the "peak" of this "event" last night. I seriously couldn't be bothered to even "lamp post watch" much less get in the car and go up onto the downs.

The sleet/wet snow I experienced was largely due to intensity as the drops were pretty large as opposed to the drizzly crap in Alton

It was certainly just rain as I was cycling home around midnight. It had gone quite misty too as the colder air arrived, and still quite murky this morning.

It smelt a bit "snowy" this morning but although it looked a bit sleety at times, the stuff falling on me was definitely just rain on close inspection. Probably snowing at the top of the Shard, though!

Seems like the cold situation is finely starting to show signs of abating in the US.

Maybe that might break up the current situation over here too - less of the atlantic train#?
