The first few days of February 2004 were exceptionally mild with record breaking maxima. Tropical maritime air flooded the UK and in any sunshine it felt more like spring.

Although winter 2003/04 was mild with a similar CET to this year it was a much more interesting winter with several cold snowy spells.

January brought the famous thunder snow event while late February brought a bitter spell if norther lies that gave substantial snow in the NE.

In between, mild bright weather gave a taste of spring, unlike this year when the weather has never been very mild or cold just mildish with coolish weather in between and of course continuous rain throughout.
