Only ventured outside to recycle items in the bins today.. Far to cold my bones... 20.c indoors but cooler in the wet room with window open.. But unfortunately the window is above the loo and it faces south so more wind than normal....

It seems like it has been constantly windy here for weeks now and it has loosened something around the eaves or gutter of our roof and it is rattling with every gust of wind (of whichever here are many). I can't find out/access the source of the rattling and I am not amused. Winter 2013-14, go away we've had enough of you.Interesting weather is one thing destructive conditions are something else (which I shall resist posting)

Still, I also didn't do at all badly in terms of brighter weather as the past few days has been quite pleasant which helped with the drying up process around here - but it seems my luck is about to run out soon going by the GFS outputs for the next two weeks. Even the idea of high pressure by around St Valentine's Day has been cruelly snatched away from me - I knew I shouldn't have kept my hopes up. All we can now hope for is a pattern change as soon as we go into March (yes, I know the changing of the month has no effect on the weather as for all know it'll be a month of equinox gales). At least there'll be more daylight which'll make it easier to see how rubbish the weather is being, I suppose. Still, could be worse, I could be living at Cornwall or Devon.
And why do postings get all messed up on an iPad but comes out fine on Windows?
Actually, I wish I could get the same remote control as the one in the brilliant Adam Sandler film "Click" and use it to fast forward through the rest of the winter until we get to the first hint of proper warm weather. That'll be six months of my life gone in a flash, then.
The night 9th April 1995 (I think) the Bristol area, at least, had a 4" fall of snow that lasted until the afternoon of the following day before the sun destroyed it all.

Will be up or night if it does... But at my age....
Just why can we not have that scene now...Instead of the conditions we are having...Who takes images of rain and not just floods......
Sunday 6th April 2008 - had 2.5" snow fall in the morning, followed by a bright, sunny day, with the snow mostly gone by evening. Perfect for everyone: good photo ops, most folk off work/school and no travel disruption next day.

You can imagine my surprise then to see this in Vegas last year!
Erm, anyway - yes, it can snow decently in April inland. I've never seen lying snow (or any snow, for that matter) here in April but I guess it's possible in theory.
Just what IS it about Kent and strong southerly winds??? The rain I can put up with, but c'mon, this is getting boring now.http://www.xcweather.co.uk/Of course, I could be living in Cornwall so it could be worse.
This winter in Kent has been as bad as any we experienced in North Wales for wetness (we were there for ten years)! The reason we left Wales was because of the constantly grey wet winters (Dec 2010 excepted) and the not much better summers (Summer 2006 through to 2011...effectively there was no summer).
However I never ever expected this type of winter down here. It has been relentless
JUST STOP FECKIN RAINING!!!!
Thankfully we will be leaving these shores soon for warmer and drier (hopefully) climes in SW France!
Thankfully, I've appeared to have missed out on the worse of last night's downpours (was asleep for most of the time anyway) and at least we can expect a brief respite today with brightening skies today before the next . . . well, I guess we all already know the drill by now.The current unsettled spell and knowing there are loads more where they are coming from is now getting to me that I've decided to take a break from my Cloud Master forecasting duty, at least to try and spare myself from getting up at 6 am looking at model outputs and serving to wind myself up in the process by issuing more bad news and warnings - not really a good way to start the day. Yes, it looks like I'm waving the white flag but at least so far my followers are being sympathetic, and besides there are plenty of other weather pages doing the rounds so I'll let them deal with all the forecastings and warnings. It's not as if I am making a living out of it so I can chicken out whenever I feel like it.It's got to a point where in all my 34 years of being into meteorology, I have never known a winter like this in terms of wind and rain. It is a bit like a wet version of 1947 or 1963. I'm sure even February '90 that followed the St Burns Day storm wasn't as bad as this! Here's hoping the calm-down does occur sooner than we think, despite the models continuing to paint the very unsettled picture. At least the daylight is increasing - that'll make it easier to see how rubbish our weather is being. I used to be a winter lover and often felt disappointed when it goes along on a "boring and quiet note", like it did after that December '10 - but now I just cannot wait to feel the first springlike warmth of the sun on my face and knowing it'll be calm for weeks ahead.Certainly a case of being careful what to wish for in terms of "exciting" weather.
On only two occasions this winter I have had to scrape the ice off the car windowscreen, quite remarkable, don't think a winter will beat that in a longtime
Who fancies a Beard Challenge? we refuse to shave till we get snow in our locations ...for charity of course
P.S there could be a influx of Santa's this year

This should be in the media forum but it's a rant.
Don't you just love the last sentence of Simon Keeling's week ahead weather forecast on for Weather Online: (17th Feb). NOT!

"Becoming wet and windy again on Monday. The winds may reach gale force with severe gales in the west and south."
- I mean, Come on...! As if it wasn't already or has been wet and windy!
We haven't worked for nearly two weeks
The ground is saturated, slippery, it's like treading treacle, twice as hard to work in.
I'm assuming we are not the only business too, to suffer from this weather...

Tree surgeons are nut cases. No fear at all
That's one of the jobs I occasionally do but I don't like it; it's too dangerous, and I cheat by using a cherry picker
So do quite a few in the Model Output thread I reckon!
Can't be having this thread falling off p1!!
After realistically writing off our chances for a memorable and long 'catastrophic' snow event for another winter, the thought of 'just how flooded can we get??' was at least keeping interest.
Now it looks like the weather's going to calm down a bit - especially in the south. And not even a last hoorah for winter on the horizon (in terms of snow)
