I saw a distant flash of lightning to the south-east, probably over the Channel, around 6.50pm this evening.
There is an active line of showers moving into Sussex from Cherbourg and there are active storms over the sea
Cool - I may have seen your lightning!
this year has been the first time I've seen lighting this time of year . I did see one in December 2010 in a snow storm . sevendust maybe u seen my one . have u seen anymore lightning? all quiet on the eastern front

Tomorrow may bring some reasonable convection to parts of the south from the Channel, as winds turn to the SW.
Wednesday's rain may also feature some embedded convection according to the raw GFS data.
This might explain how WRF manages to bring over 20mm from Wednesday's event while GFS is closer to 15mm. EURO-4 doesn't quite cover the whole thing yet but looks close to WRF.
It looks to pack the greatest punch across first the SW and then the Central Southern region. For some reason GFS reduces the precipitation substantially just one grid point away from the South Coast - by some 10mm for the event. This is not usually observed for frontal systems...
Just picking up sferics in the Channel again. There is plenty going on over Biscay and other stuff to the SW generally so don't be surprised if we see a few storms in favoured areas
looks like a storm cell in the channel . i might see some lightling tonight in the channel
Shower, with hail.

We had a rain and hail shower at around 6am - just to wake me early on the weekend! First of many by the looks of things.

Just had a hail shower here. Looks like being a fairly lively day

Recent sferics here - and short very heavy rain and hail.
Absolutely threw it down with hail here... for all of 30 seconds.
Still left a covering on the corregated rooftop visible from my window. It was a very 'pure' hail shower, with not a hint of rain in sight, even right at the edge; it came and went a few times as it was clearing, each time giving a scattering of stones, like if you were to pick up a bunch and throw them... but on a huge scale.
Hmmn. It was hard to describe that one!
Just turned very dark here now... camera at the ready!
Add Thanet to that list of a short lived hail storm. Just exited here 5 mins ago.
Thunder reported from Torquay
Its getting darker now.
Thunder!
