Please, please, please, can we keep this strictly related to weather reports and updates for those ares currently by the weather events of this week?...

That I know of so far:

Canterbury area - rivers and groundwater absolutely brimming, and any rain whatsoever is now a threat. Latest forecast appears to be more rain from Monday night onwards.

Staines/Chertsey/Weybridge - River Thames already higher than previsouly recorded, 14 SFWs in place! Will be affected by rainfall Weybridge area, and upstream Thames Oxfordshire/Berkshire.

Somerset Levels - anyone want to update?

EDIT: I've amended the title to reflect the fact that other areas may of course be affected by wind/snow in the coming week.

Went to Oxford today for a run with a mate but couldn't get to his house in Kennington because the Thames has burst it's banks. Ended up running on my own but couldn't even see the bridge to get across the river at Sandford-on-Thames. The poor folk at the pub were under water...

Parts of cobham and leatherhead and surrounding areas have been bad due to the river mole in surrey. We were on flood warning, but thankfully waters have receded a little today. If this weeks rain delivers as forecast, however, I can see us back on red alert. Incidentally main road to leatherhead was cut off due to flooding last Saturday, due to the rain on Friday and this flooded the football club and associated charity (has its storage in football club). I believe this is the 5th time since Xmas eve they have flooded, devastating for the charity based at the football club........I think this week could see it just as bad.

It is taking less rain to cause flooding now as the ground is so saturated. Church car park outside of cobham is permanently flooded now, water was up to the road todaynd was over it on Friday, making it impassable.......

I'm in Egham, Runnymede, Surrey and the situation here is getting worse and worse.

The A308 Windsor Rd just off the M25 is currently closed as it's submerged beneath about 2ft of water. The fields just to south of this road are now lakes and the Runnymede-on-Thames Hotel and Spa is closed yet again until 17th Feb at least.

Local radio report that the A22 between Downs Court Road junction and the Wapses lodge roundabout (that's just before the Caterham bypass, going south towards J6 of the M25) is closed in both directions.  The Bourne, usually an underground steam, has overflowed.

Meanwhile, our river (the Nailbourne) has steadied at 0.68, but still it rains...

Groundwater causing major problems locally and in contributing to rivers; and being groundwater, likely to continue for some weeks yet as the chalk strata slowly drain. From central S England:

Just groundwater flooding, obstruction of significant roads and flooded property reported

A272 Bramdean near Winchester
B2150 Hambledon near Fareham
A32 Farringdon near Alton
B3081 Tollard Royal near Shaftesbury
B2173 Chilgrove near Chichester

Combination of groundwater and surface water with some roads closed

A3057 Romsey [Test - many properties in centre flooded]
A338 Fordingbridge [Avon - school closed for lack of access]
A352 Wareham [Frome]
B3335 Eastleigh [Itchen - Winchester also expecting trouble]

Run-off problems, roads impassable

Alfriston [Cuckmere]
Barcombe Mills [Sussex Ouse]

In other words, pretty much everywhere

Here in Bewdley, things have improved a little - the Severn is at 4.2m, down from about 4.6m yesterday morning - but Bewdley Bridge is still closed. The town centre itself is open - you just have to come in from the west (Leominster) direction. Bypass running okay, but was very congested in the morning rush hour (reports of drivers taking 30 minutes to travel a few miles) and will doubtless be again this afternoon.

Just heard on BBC1 news that Worcester bridge is about to reopen. Very brief glimpse of Hylton Road, which remains closed. EA says the level at Barbourne is 5.32m, so not down much from yesterday. Southern bypass is still the only sure way to get into the city, and that's going to be clogged later. I believe Crowngate Bus Station is still closed. Trains running fine as they're well above river level!

I just heard on the radio that the River Thames in some areas has now burst it's banks in some of the 14 severe warning areas, I think Thames Valley areas?

Will try to confirm..

Bewdley's level might be dropping but the next flood peak is just making its way through Shrewsbury (highest level expected this evening)

http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/floods/riverlevels/120747.aspx?stationId=2036

The level at the Severn Vyrnwy confluence has exceeded the previous recent highest but is now starting to fall

http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/floods/riverlevels/120747.aspx?stationId=2067

Levels dropped off a lot upstream at Newtown.

http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/floods/riverlevels/120747.aspx?stationId=4235

Despite the flooding lower down on the Severn, flood water is being released from the Clywedog reservoir - trying to manage the flood peaks a bit by releasing water now to try and take up some of the next deluge.

I've now heard of five railway lines closed by landslips

Horsham - Dorking

Battle - Tunbridge Wells (in 2 separate places)

Woldingham -Oxted

Salisbury - Exeter at Crewkerne (now re-opened with speed restrictions)

Is the rainfall alone enough to account for this? A caller to Radio Sussex suggested that the recent Network Rail programme of cutting down trees to prevent leaves on the line was a major contributor. I don't buy into that, because it seems that Network Rail have left the stumps, so the roots will stil be there to stabilise the slopes. What do you think?

Water levels on Wiindsor Road in Egham, Runnymede (Surrey) are getting ridiculously high now. A little higher and it will start to breach Egham bypass.

My friend lives in Molesey and his house backs onto the Thames. You go out of his back gate onto a short grassy area and there is the Thames. He showed me a video at work today, that he shot late yesterday afternoon, the river had burst its banks and was covering all around, benches on the grassy bank had disappeared and tree trunks were well submerged. He estimated it would have to rise a further 80cm to flood his house. I sincerely hope the unprecedented levels do not take it that high. The problem was, he said, that the level was still rising and was due to continue doing so for 24 to 36 hours. I hope to get a happy update tomorrow. Seeing his video was amazing and it would be great to see more as long as it does not reach his house........

Ps it was flowing incredibly fast

In a rather unscientific experiment today, I compared the speed of the Thames in Reading with my usual cycling pace, which I know to be not far off 15mph.

As a very rough estimate, I'd say the water was flowing at between 20 and 30mph.

In some places the river has overtopped the canal edge, and I've heard reports of some businesses being flooded.

Still more incredible rises in the Thames at Chertsey, not at 1.37 metres! Very few roads left open around Staines/Chertsey. I have friends who stil live in that area, and they're all getting very worried. It's an extremely bad situation there now. Can someone give me an update on what my fall in the Berkshire/Oxfordshire areas of the Thames please?

Meanwhile, back in East Kent, the Nailbourne has steadied at 0.66 metres from a high of 0.68 metres. Next batch of rain already falling there, so another rise looks imminent.
