The lane was gritted and now the snow on there is melting but it's still on the grass, roof, car and bins. Hopefully a top up overnight. If not then I'm happy we've seen a covering today at long last  it's been a long wait this Winter.

Surprisingly I drove through a moderate snow shower on the way home. This left a covering around St Andrews. Inevitably nothing on the ground here in Crail though a few flakes blowing around in the wind. Temp +1c/-1c.

We had snow!!


Back in St Helens by 16.30 and it started snowing soon after: big, fat, juicy flakes. Left a slushy covering, but has largely melted now. Temp (according to car) fell from 6c when I left my meeting the other side of Wigan at around 15.00, to 2c during the snow.


Big gap until the next band of showers but, if we get some more snow overnight, we might wake up to a covering. But that's a long shot.

A heavy powdery snow/soft hail shower came rattling through as I left Greater Manchester at half 5. Temp dropped to 0c and covered all roads. As I got nearer Glossop there were two big flashes of lighting from the cell as it was clearing over the Pennines. Some of the roads are like sheet ice round here now. Today has finally brought at taste of winter at town level.
