Entertaining little squall line that passed through earlier. Fairly calm before, extremely heavy rain and gusty winds during. According to the rain gauge 3 to 4mm fell as it passed - given the total for the day was 10 before that it just highlights how heavy it was. 5-10 mins more of that would have been a bit interesting....

Lights flickering here - a very rare occurance these days.

The wind is very gusty, which suggests a strong convective input. There's certainly some incredible development taking place at the moment, with cells exploding as they move inland, and they are also long-lived and organised due to the strong wind shear.

I've seen rain rates of over 40mm/hr twice already this evening, albeit only for less than 10 minutes each time.

Had a peak gust of 60mph but it was so brief that I wonder if the true peak was actually recorded. Some of those gusts really are like getting a hard slap on the back. They sure do sound angry as I sit here with my window on the latch!

On the way back here (west Hants), the main road to Ringwood from Salisbury was entirely submerged in places due to groundwater flooding. Still passable, but only at a snails pace!

Not too bad here at the moment - Looking at the gust values from points near us ( Benson, Odiham, Farnborough and Boscomb Down) I strongly suspect thisa is be due to local topography. We are quite sheltered from a southerly direction by Watership Down - less so from wind points more to the West.

The wind down here in Falmouth since about midday has been the strongest I've experienced all winter, the house has been shaking in the strong gusts and it's been relentless!

Watership Down eh?

I'm located in the Avon Valley and the winds have been screaming along it this evening, but they're turning increasingly to the SW with time so that problem should abate shortly.

Having pulled through all of what this winter has thrown at it, Hampshire has finally joined the high flood risk group as of this evening. A fair portion of Southern England is now part of that group... good luck to everyone at risk.

Strangely, there's no mention of river flooding in Hampshire as far as I can tell, despite for example the River Avon being with in 7cm of it's record highest level. Then again, it's a very well managed river these days - not like it was back in 2000.

Just been out to the local shop (any excuse to sample the weather) a d it's really impressive out there. Huge amounts of surface water, big gusting winds which coupled with the eerie emptiness of the streets (I presume horrid weather and valentines) its feeling really quite odd out there, almost foreboding.

Flood sirens have been sounded on Chiswell Portland again this evening indicating overtopping of the shingle beach. The sirens had never been used before until recently. This is the third time the siren have been sounded in as many weeks.

Okay... apparently I just had a 110mph gust, which caused a fairly large branch to take off into the night.

Whaaat.

Looks like the anemometer just gave up. Now stuck on the maximum of 150mph

Edit: just to clarify, I don't belive the 110mph reading! 70mph tops, 80 at a long stretch given the size of the branch.
