morning all   wow what a night about 3.15am i was waking up by the strongest wind since 1998 when a mini tornado went threw peacehaven . the hail were large and were hitting my roof every 10 sceonds with a thud  and i thought it was going to smash the windows . the lightning was intense  and powerful like pink or blue in colour .  Does anyone know how i can find out if i had a tornado or a down burst .  thankyou .

yes it really was violent wasnt it quite scary very intense storm and the wind had a real roar to it and the hail lashed down

Slow moving heavy showers here this afternoon giving some sharp downpours.

One flash of lightning and loud thunder here about 20 mins ago from that band of showers crossing into East Anglia.

I noticed net radar is picking up some locally torrential rain and lightning SW of B'ham similar to yesterday infarct.

That ribbon of squally showers is just about on us here now, with a few rumbles of thunder. All outbound LGW/LHR traffic seems to be taking quite an unusual route at the moment - not sure if it's weather related though.


It's not over, until the fat Scandy sinks.....

For the time of year, tomorrow has pretty decent potential in terms of convection. There's no guarantee of it being realised of course, but EURO-4 supports GFS in showing something developing across The South.

As James mentioned yesterday, reasonable convection forecast today. Plenty of showers coming in across the south in bands so far this morning. Been pretty wet in Basingstoke
