I'll give two separate ratings one for interesting weather and one for pleasantness

Interesting Weather = 0/10
Pleasantness = 0/10

Worst winters of the last 30 years

1. 2013/14
2. 1987/88
3. 1997/98
4. 2005/06 (counting Dec, Jan and Feb only not March)
5. 2007/08

None of the other four anywhere near as bad as this winter. Dull, wet, depressing and boring beyond belief. Endless cold winds and almost static temperatures. A winter of 6C, rain and very little else, this has been the worst winter of all time. Vile without any redeeming features

* A cold and dry Christmas Day (allowed for a post-lunch walk!)

0/10.
Two dustings of snow, nothing measurable.
I cannot recall a snowless winter in terms of measurable depth until now. Even 98 had one moderate fall.
Complete contrast to last year 75cm snow and the snowiest winter (inc March) on my records.

10/10 Absolutly wonderful winter Mild all the way through and shed loads of rain.

Im not a lover of cold so its been as good as i could have wished for,imo the best since 89/90.

In reality we have totally bypassed winter this year, its been the longest autumn which is now turning to spring.

This has got to be the most despicable "winter" I have ever experienced.  Not only haven't we had any "winter" (IMBY at any rate) but we have had incessant gales , which are  a type of weather   I hate with a *MASSIVE* passion !

So a firm 0/10 or 10 for me - because as has been pointed out we haven’t actually had a winter, just a "turbo charged" autumn. So I'm going to purge my mind of this nasty period of weather and hope that next year we will actually have a winter

Seriously, what anyone can find enjoyable about endless wind and rain beats me completely. I don't mind mild winter weather as long as it is mostly dry with it, but how much dry weather have we had this "winter"? Not much that I can recall.

Winter 2013-14, I condemn you to eternal damnation!

Down here in my locale There was no winter 2013/14 it has been nothing more than autumnal since October. my lowest min has been -1.7, a temperature that I have beaten in Octobe ,April and even May in previous years. I therefore can't rate winter 2013/14 because it didn't happen. The only hope I am clinging onto is that these relentlessly mild and wet winters often have a nasty sting in the tail come April

The coldest weather we (SW) had experience was a few days end of November) But wait so frustrating! Those colder days were during Autumn. We had a colder day early December. I just can't believe that we are at the end of February and yet still have not got below -2.3c which was recorded back in November on two or three occasions. The Coldest temp this February has been 0.6c one night and the coldest temp recorded in January was -1.9c. So in actual fact the lowest temp was way back in November. I agree with you. It's been autumn all the way.

Just hope we don't have a cold wet spring and wet summer!

Anyway, off to Las Vegas from Saturday!

As a snow lover, rating this winter in the terrible 0/10 zone as I gave seen a few sleety flakes in the rain and that is it! No lying snow at all, rather rubbish. Roll on winter 2014/15.😋 still it could be worse, not been that wet here as it could have been given angle of approach of most storms.

The weird thing is I recorded a lower temp in Autumn than the whole Winter, I cannot remember a time when that last happened since moving here in the 70's.

Absolutely dreadful winter here in Kent. Way too much rain and wind , minimal frosts, not a flake of snow. The worst winter I have experienced in my 46 years.

If this winter is measured by the amount of snow and ice that has been seen, it has been the worst conceivable....  0/10.  However, as someone who likes "interesting weather", this winter hasn't been too bad.   The 23/24 December storm was one of the most tempestuous I can recall in terms of its combination of intensity and longevity; and the winds, squalls  and even thunder which frequented us over January and early February were great to watch from the safety of indoors.   And given that I don't tend to expect winter to provide me with 'outdoor weather', I wasn't dissapointed in the way I was in, say, summer 2012.   All in all, I preferred this to the Barlett tedium of 1988/89 for instance.   Despite all that, I did miss the snow, so 3/10.

Rated as 'winter', 0/10

Rated as a 'spell of interesting weather' 7/10; spectacular at times, but repetitive

Rated from the point of view of houseowners, transport firms etc, 2/10; blizzards and deep snow could have caused more problems than we've had so far

If we are marking this purely on wintriness then it's clearly 0/10 and one of the worst I have experienced in 38 years. I drive over the A66 across the northern Pennines every week and I have never known such little snow at such height before.

However, if we are marking this on weather, just weather, then you have to say that it's been a cracking winter (I know people have suffered and I feel terrible for those that have suffered) as the wind speeds and the rain levels etc have been incredible.

You only have to look at Kevin's thread on the rainfall totals and you see that we have just witnessed something special.

It comes down to whether or not you are a fan of meteorology and the weather or if you are just a fan of hot summers and/or cold wintry winters.

As I am one of the former I have to rate this winter 8/10, yes I would have liked a little diversity from the wind and rain, but I'll take my chances on summer being hot and next winter being cold and be thankful that I have been part of such an extreme season.

That's why I don't think this winter would rank in my 'worst 5'. I'm rubbish with remembering specific years, but I do know that we've had plenty of winters with no/little snow falling in the late 80's & the 90's, and where we've also had bland, mild gunk for weeks on end.

At least the storms have been interesting, and seeing the pictures of ravaged seafronts have been fascinating, as has the levels of flooding in certain parts.

And, IMBY, rainfall hasn't actually been anything above normal, as the winds have been predominantly from south of west, thus the Welsh mountains have given us some rain shadow protection. This has been a welcome relief after the last several years have seen long periods of winds from W to NW, which has channelled constant lines of showers W-E in a band running along the N Wales coast and into NW England. I'll admit to a feeling of 'about time some other buggers got the rain'.

Worst winter ever - 2013/14. 0 out of 10 for being horribly mild (How anyone with an interest in meteorology can actually enjoy a mind numbingly dull mild winter is beyond me) and also for the ridiculous amount of wind and rain.

Next worst has to be winter 2011/12. 1 of of 10. It was ridiculously mild but we did have about 1 week in February which was cold and brought some snowfall.

After that it has to be some of the extremely boring, mild winters of the 90's and early 2000's.

I've quite enjoyed this winter.

It's been nowhere near as monotonous as 89/90 (well, that mild one around then) or several other Tm SWly dominated winters I can't quickly put dates to. We've had awesome rains (the one with the last storm, a blizzard of a rain 'shower', will be one of my top meteorological memories along with the blizzard of 78), pretty amazing storms, the odd snow showers and, thankfully imo, hardly any frost.

It's been wet, windy and not too cold here, which has got a bit tedious in the end.

That said it's been the windiest winter for ages and the wettest on record so for me it's got to be an 8/10 Whilst all the rain has been pretty irritating to commute through on the pushbike, I've not had too much ice to contend with, only a little fog and generally it's been warm enough that i've not felt cold at all. Coupled with the entertainment of cycling through numerous floods, whilst I doubt the bottom bracket or hubs will be happy, it's certainly made a change this year!

Cold and snow would have been great but as a (hopefully) one off then at least this year has been interesting, appreciating that it's definitely been too interesting for some

I would have to give it 4/10. One wintry shower thats been it and a few frosts. We have had plenty of rain this side of the Pennines but no where as much as elsewhere.

The Manchester Winter Index backs up what I think of this winter, worst ever. I like seasons to resemble at least in some part in what we traditionally think of them. The lack of wintriness has been remarkable, I never thought that 1988-89 would be surpassed to this degree.

We have had some out of kilt seasons recently, this winter gone, last spring, summer 2012 and autumn 2011.

I thought summer 2012 took the biscuit but this winter takes the whole packet! The two worst seasons I can recall summer 2012 and winter 2013-14 and both within 2 years of each other.
