I'm a little more cautious about the overall output up here as it is a bit hit and miss at times. Either way it is a massive improvement on past weeks and generally very settled at times in the south. I'm not sure it will be exceptionally mild but it looks like being above average especially in the south and with light winds and any sunshine it will feel very pleasant indeed.

I'm always buoyed when this thread is quiet. No one getting excited because they might have to scrape a thin veneer of ice off their car on a morning etc. the outlook is positively balmy for the time of year. More importantly, it's fantastic for areas still under flood water. 👍

I would be getting pretty excited by now if this was early december. This sort of sequence is commonly seen before a mega block over greenland; although it doesn't guarantee it ridges contuinually waxing and waning further and further NW does indicate this. Its a shame that if it does come of it will be well into march. But f*** it, I've seen one day of snow showers,  one day with a dusting, one day with a dusting at 6am, one day with a sleet shower (december), 3 days with noticable sleet, and one day with noticable wet snow. So I am not ready for spring yet, and feel that we are still sometime in late november. Spring feels 3 months away.

I don't remember much excitement then - all moans about endless Bartlett winters etc, etc.

It might actually transpire that the latter part of the month is northerly dominated - the profile high up (if maintained) is pointing in that direction. I'll take the week of beautiful spring weather as promised by today and hope that the buds and insects brought forth don't get a nasty shock later on.

Hi folks. I'm sorry for not being able to post my twice daily model analysis for the last week or so. I have my elderly mum in hospital currently with an illness which in a younger person would not be life threatening but at 92 what isn't so please excuse me for interrupting this twice daily analysis. While at home resting after another time consuming day I have looked at the models and can see that a major change is imminent towards dry and settled weather with some mild spring sunshine with potentially chilly and frosty nights coupled with patchy fog. It is worthy of note though that March has a habit of offering Spring in one hand and plunging us into winter in the other so I would caution that although Spring is indicated in tonight's output to take one day at a time as Winter often has a last bite between now and Easter.

On my reports scenario I will be back as soon as possible posting my regular analysis with you guys as soon as I am able.

I think something like that might have happened later in December, when I remember getting very excited. It came to very little, but such is the weather; its unpredictable.

Anyway, looks like the pattern change will not last too long and unsettled conditions will return by day 9 or 10

I'm sure things will revert back to that all-too familar breezy unsettled trend as we go into the second half of the month and of course, into April as bear in mind we are still in this "transitional" period weather-wise - but, I, for one, would like to see this high-pressure type pattern return in summer proper - it'll bloody better do!
But for now, to experience a 10-days long dry spell in March is actually just as unusual as all that wetness and storminess in the past four months, nature seems to be very good at paying it's debt.

Think the winter lovers need to let it go now, some already have (Gooner etc)

Looks like a decent spell weather in the next 7-10 days, although never especially mild here - nice to see a prominent azores high and a northerly jet stream this time of year, last year of course the jet was through the azores into Spain

I like winter weather in the winter (so last spring was not welcome), so at this stage I'm looking for the sort of weather we've got now, light overnight frosts, with warm / sunny days; in other words spring weather.

In my eyes, winter is over - it was horrible - let's enjoy spring.
