Max Temperature Reports for 7th - 14th March 2014.

good weather

With 'hopefully' many of us having the chance over the next week of some mild/warmish/warm weather I thought it would be good if people can share the maximum temperature's that are reached in their part of the UK. Its bound to be a week that ends up disappointing for some but there may also be some surprises for a few places so I can't be the only one to be a little excited! Here meto are going for unbroken sunshine and 14C by 3pm and quite a few other places too like London, Oxford, Torquay, Bristol, Exmouth, Dartmouth, Poole, Bournemouth, all forecast to be 14C by then so I'm wondering what the actual figures for today will be and what the next week will bring? We're not even forecast to have full sun until the afternoon but the cloud is already rapidly burning off and the sun is out so maybe that forecast of 14C can be broken by the few extra hours of sunshine.

It would be great if people could report daytime maxes either from themselves or from local media/weather stations etc over the next week.

Well yesterday Gravesend got to 15.5c which was the hottest day of the year so far. Could well beat that today.

So far exactly 9.0C as a max here today, but with a strong NW wind it feels chillier.

12.9c was the max here today. The SST's are a few degrees warmer compared to last year. We are off to a good start.

It is obvious that the Strait Of Dover is warmer than this time last year so it isn't feeling like I'm living at Newfoundland this time round where there isn't that refrigeration effect (not had the heating on today). I should imagine sea mist/fog will be a less common occurrence as we go into Spring proper.
It'll also make it easier for those juicy French imports to reach here in the summer time but that's me getting ahead of myself again.

Max here was 9.0C at 0300hrs. By lunchtime 3.5C with blustery wintry showers. 3.0C and clear now.
Opposite tomorrow with a cold start and a mild pm hopefully with a bit of brightness and the highest temp of the year so far. Not that difficult to beat at 11 C.

Heathrow got 16.4C today.

Hopefully that sort of stuff will not be as common this year as a result.

It's one of those rare moments where the weather is settled and warm(ish), and the forecast is for the same for the foreseeable future. I love these long settled spells. May it last from now until September.

This warm spell is actually a bit special; I just had a glance over my records up to the first week of March for the years 2003-2012, and not one of them saw 15*C so early on in the spring season. 2012 was close, with the first on 11th March, and behind that is 2011 with 14th March. 2009, 2005 and 2004 all took until 16th March. 2006 never got there, and 2013... well that one peaked at 13.7*C

Oddly enough, the earliest 15*C in any of those years occured on 27th January 2003. The following year, 15*C was seen twice in February, on the 3rd and the 4th.

The next 'record' up for grabs is for the earliest occurance of consecutive days hitting 15*C or above, currently held jointly by 2009 (2 day run) and the far more impressive spell of 2005 (an 11 day run, averaging 17.7*C and peaking at 20*C. By comparison, the high-and-dry March of 2012 only managed 8 days!). Both of those spells started on the 16th.

However, to my surprise, both 2013 and 2012 had higher temperatures earlier on. I recorded a max of 17.0c on 23rd February 2012 and a max of 16.3c on March 5th 2013. Today saw a max of 15.9c, which is the highest temperature I've recorded so far this year. Wouldn't be surprised if 17c or maybe even 18c was breached on Sunday though.
