I thought Gerrard and Hart had a good post match interview (don't ask how I get ITV here in USA), grounded and optimistic; they know there's work to be done, but not panicking.  Seems the most harmonious I have seen the England squad since Portugal 2004.

I think he'll plonk Sterling on the right, Lallana on the left.

Behind those three it will be Henderson-Gerrard as that's about the most defensive pairing Woy has at his disposal.

I'd agree though, the team does look quite balanced, even if lacking in killer skills and ability. How we need right now a Shearer up front to tuck away the goals, and a Beckham on the right to supply some crosses.  That would actually be a half decent XI, but a totally moot point.

Sturridge in the form that he had for much of last season would be as prolific. He seemed rusty last night, but he's got a great football brain, in terms of the runs he makes.

Suggestions that Roy might use Rooney to man mark Pirlo next week. Not sure how I feel about that.  Rooney does not have the discipline to stay out of trouble; Pirlo is a clever player who will rile Rooney up.  Plus, I thnk Rooney wants to be the 'man', the fulcrum of the team, so being played solely to man-mark Pirlo would not go down well with him.  I wonder if someone with legs like Milner might be preferred?  That would be a boring three picks wouldn't it, Gerrard, Henderson, and Milner?

Unfortunately it look likes Johnson will be our RB..he is very poor, esp when you consider the LB and the one left at home !! Rooney's contribution has been slight..certainly playing on past performances of years ago.

One thing is for sure, this WC will come down more than usual to how managers use their subs.

In the game against Italy, does Woy start with a cautious line-up i.e. not using Sterling, but bringing him on late in the game when the Italians are knackered (like us)

OR

Does he use the sh.i.t or bust strategy by starting with Sterling, hoping we can pick up an early goal or two and then closing the game out with someone like Milner.

Agreed, we have some decent impact players who can run around for 20 minutes

FIFA will never be clean whilst Blatter is there. I am sure if there was a full independent investigation with full access to the required information then there would be more than sufficient evidence to send Blatter and a good few others to prison.
