That performance from Chile was proper total football - and a lot of it can be put down to Bielsa when he managed Chile.

It's another "France" with regard to Spain's exit. Too many players who have already been-there-done-that and got the '000s per week salary, so the desire to perform in the World Cup Shop Window isn't there. An afflication that has done England down as well in previous comptetions.

I stand by my Chile/Comlumbia double for the latter stages.

End of an era for Spain. Surely now del Bosque must go, and someone new come it to begin the process of fading out the players who have been central to Spain's success, but now seem past it.

Unlike most, it would seem, I've no animosity toward Spain, nor the style of football that's served them well in recent years.

Unfortunately, I don't think it's the end of the tippy tappy s.h.i.t.e era, because I fear the waiters will lose patience with the new system of Costa up top and revert back to the old 'false nine' mentality.

Contrast Spain's style with that of Chile under Bielsa. Thankfully, that tradition has been maintained with the present team.

It may have been madcap but the 3-3-1-3 set-up under Bielsa was exciting to watch.

Brazil will play Chile or Holland in the 2nd round then. Can't see them beating either.

Cameroon fairly shocking in that match. Looks like Brazil and the winner of Croatia/Mexico game from that group, I just cannot see Cameroon winning their tie with Brazil.

Big game tomorrow then, Uruguay versus England.  No surprises for team, it will be same XI that started against Italy with Rooney moved central, Welbeck left, and Sterling right.  Outside chance Lallana plays instead of Welbeck but I don't see it.  Uruguay have declared Suarez fit (even if I don't believe that he is 100%).  Hope we have a strong ref as we will have to put up with his antics of diving should he play.  Anyone's game, and even if we lose, we are not out of it if Italy beat Costa Rica (and Italy beat Uruguay and we beat Costa Rica in the last game), but I'd hate to see it coming down to a bottom-clencher like that.  If Costa Rica win against Italy and we lose to Urineguay, then Roy's boys can start packing for home.

I have to watch the game streamed on my android phone which is annoying. Part tempted to ignore all media until I get home and then watch the replay but you can bet that I'll somehow find out the score inadvertantly.  Good day for a sickie?

Song's sending off pretty much finished the game off as a spectacle. He'd kept Modric quiet to that point.

Lots of assumptions but................

Assuming we beat Uruguay and Costa Rica and the Italians beat Costa Rica and Uruguay, so that we finish second in the group our next opponent would likely be Colombia or Ivory Coast. I'd take either.

That team sound about right for England I would think. I think if we get beaten tomorrow we will go out, couldn't see the other results falling our way to get us through. If we draw and Italy beat Costa Rica however then it is all still to play for in the final game.

I think Italy v Costa Rica kicks off first so we will know a bit more about what is required by the time out game comes around.

My prediction -

Uruguay 1 - 1 England. I think it coud close and I can see Uruguay scoring first and then trying to frustrate us. If Italy beat Costa Rica this result wouldn't be a disaster.

Most of us were under no illusions as to the squads shortcomings, and if they can eek out a win tonight then who knows? Anything is better than the defensive rubbish < extra time < pens we've had in the last few tournaments.
