It's not often the local mean back in West Hants is nearly a degree above the CET, but this month it might well be the case, with the local figure looking to be close to 16.0*C, just under 1.4*C above the LTA.

Well done to Redmoons who hit the nail on the head. But then all but 7 people were within 1C of the final answer.

Global Warming

Here are the final charts for June. Warmest June since 2010 based on the mean CET temperature. A disappointing end to the month stopped the anomaly from being even greater.

The maximum CET anomaly was much greater than the minimum but despite that the maximum CET was only the warmest since 2010 whereas the minimum was the warmest since 2007.

Well done to redmoons. Exact prediction to the nearest one-hundredth of a degree.

CET prediction competition tables to hopefully follow tomorrow evening.

Global Warming
02 July 2014 21:49:56

Warmest first 6 months of the year on the CET mean. We ended up in fourth place. The slightly cool end to June prevented us from taking second spot.

2007 9.72C
1846 9.53C
1822 9.51C
2014 9.45C
1990 9.40C
1834 9.35C
1686 9.33C

Annual CET competition update for June

It is still incredibly tight at the top of the table and the prediction errors are just amazingly low given we are now half way through the year. We have a new leader in Darren S but he is ahead of Gusty by the narrowest of margins.

Despite falling to second place Gusty remains the only person to have a prediction error of less than 0.5C in every month this year so far. His biggest error was 0.43C in April.

Surrey John rounds out the top 3 reaching his highest position of the year.

There is no too much movement in the table this month as the spread of predictions was very narrow and most people were very close to the correct CET. The only significant movement in the top 10 is marting moving up 6 places into 10th.

The biggest climber this month is Tractor Boy up 10 to 36th. On the way down Easterly Beasterly and vince both fall by more than 10 places.

Thirteen people have reached their highest position of the year in the table this month.

We are only at the halfway point though so a lot can and will change between now and the end of the year. Those in the lower half of the table can still make it towards the top 10 with some smart predicting between now and December.

Congratulations to those in the top section, especially Gusty and Darren. As for me, well I think I had better forget about this year, my crystal ball has failed me.

The models need to start showing more in the way of sustained warmth if my 0.5c margin of error is to continue.
