Now that it has finally stopped raining, I have had a look at my rain gauge and it shows 18.3 mm have fallen since my last station reset at 10 pm last night - that's 18 hours ago at time of typing this.

3mm only from tonight's showery rain that is now clearing eastwards - that'll keep the lawn lush but not enough to fully refill the water butts. Total now at 26.1mm.

Now that the thundery stuff has moved on, I've had a look and I've picked up 8.4 mm. That doesn't seem a lot considering but then again, most of that fell in the space of an hour.

I think that's enough rainfall for now, we get the message. This is being a bit of a poor start to "High Summer" for around here, now I wouldn't mind a nice bit of warmth and some decent sunshine. I've only been able to sit in the garden only a couple of times so far this year - and even then, next door's toxic-smelling BBQ and dope smoking made me want to go back indoors again before long.

0.9mm to add, from weak fronts over the last day or so; total now at 32mm. Lawn lush and water butts full so we really don't need the potential downpours expected here in a couple of days time!

10.4mm, looking at the runs this morning this could end up an exceptioanally dry month, worrying for risk of forest fires as things are tinder dry.

Remaining on 32mm here. Yesterday's weak front just managed to wet the ground but failed to tip the electronic gauge and not enough in the manual gauge to take a reading which was probably around 0.05 to 0.1mm! Doubt I'll be dealing with these tiny amounts by the end of the weekend ...

Does anyone know if the official Met Office rain gauges perform poorly during torrential rain?

You see, Bournemouth Airport only reports 1mm for last night and Benson recorded nothing at all, which can't possibly be accurate!
