Finally after months of heat records going back almost 2 years the switch has finally been flicked! Heavy snow has been falling across the Aussie Alps for most of the night, blizzard conditions in places. The photos coming out of Thredbo village this morning look very impressive indeed, small photo on the link provided. Weather warning out for today I believe.
I was in Tasmania for most of last week and there was snow around on many of the hills, to a unusually low level so the locals said. I got my snow fix in anyway, that wasn't nice fine powdery stuff though, that was the wet slushy kind that was thawing in low mist / fog, a common type of fall for Tasmania.
There has also been snow on the Blue Mountains a few hours west of Sydney and some impressive frosts, the town of Guyra on the high Northern Tablelands has been reporting temps of -10c! Coldest day for quite a few years reported from some areas of NSW, the towns of Orange and Oberon both reported snow.
The mornigns in Sydney are fresh and frostly out west, certainly a more notable winter than last year when there were no frosts at all, even in the western burbs!
The outlook is looking good for continuation of a good ski season, more snow expacted this weekend and I may even go on a snow chase in the Blue Mountains.
Good to see we can still get cold weather here, I was beginning to wonder!!!!!
