Signs of things getting going behind the main showery band now. A lot of forecasts were going for mainly clear conditions in central and southern areas today before storms moving in from France later on, but storms are now firing NW of London. Not an easy day to predict with such a volatile mix of conditions in place.

Had some showery rain in the early hours with odd heavy bursts and no thunder.

Cloudy with thundery looking sky's and odd sharp showers.

Clear weather is moving up from the south now though.

Roll on tonight and tomorrow.

Woken about 3 times but did not get up Shy
The lightning was so frequent and bright i could see it with my eyes shut , and curtains closed !
Real crackling thunder and torrential rain
It seemed to go on for ages. Best nighttime storm for 10 years maybe

Getting very slight anvil dandruff from those storms currently dissipating in the midlands. The surface pnn is a far less than the radar would suggest due to it being high based stuff I guess. I can walk about outside and miss the drops even though the radar says moderate rain.

Wake up call one hour after getting my head down due to previous storm

Now Round 2... lovely yellow sky with the sun rise, thunder & a downpour !!!

I eventually drifted back to sleep at around 03:30 only to be woken by round two at around 05:00, this time the lightning was just as frequent but much closer, sometimes there was as little as one to two seconds between the lightning and the thunder which crashed and rolled around. The rain was much heavier this time around, overflowing the guttering on at least three neighbours' houses.

My eldest wandered in and was watching with me whilst the youngest got out of bed and closed their bedroom windows to keep the rain out.

Looking forwards to tonight's light show , hopefully we'll get more of the same although a good night's sleep would be welcome .

The boys from Estofex have issued a level 2 for down here.

http://www.estofex.org/

In my experience of viewing estofex over the last few years a level 1 will deliver 70% of the time. A level 2 warning never fails to deliver something special.

...bring it on !
