I'm On the south east frontier today, flitting between Dover and Dungeness. The drawing north of the heat from the plume is palpable. I can feel the heat oozing across the channel, taking advantage of the short hop across. Must be 27c already.
Dover, 5m asl. Half a mile from the south coast.

The peak of the plume is illustrated on the link below is associated with some staggering high upper air temperatures later this evening.

Before the onset of the severe storms surface temperatures at 10pm in parts of SE Britain could still be hovering around 27-28c, based on 850Hpa's of 19c and 925Hpa temps of 24c.

An incredible plume it has to be said.

11am and already a few areas where up to 27C, sunshine will follow to those areas and temps will shoot up.

I reckon close to 34C will be hit somewhere officially today.

32C will definetly be reached.

Quite a downgrade in the temp today compared to what was forecast yesterday - yesterday BBC weather said 28C for this afternoon but now they say 23C for later this afternoon, hardly a heatwave, but it does feel a bit humid.

At 27.5 C here in my heavily shaded East-facing back yard, for the first time this year it is now feeling that warm that I'm getting relief by sitting in the shade rather than in direct sunshine.

Looks like Spring has arrived. [sn_bsmil] Like I said before, I'm so glad not to be working in a tomato greenhouse any more. I think I would have gone slightly mad by now.

At 28.9C here in East Kent. 30.5C was our max last year (for 1 day!). Let's see if we can break that one :-D

Some late maxes will be recorded today due to the fact that the plume is still growing in intensity. Parts of the NE Midlands and Northern England will record a huge climb in the next few hours.

34-35c being recorded in parts of central, eastern and NE France at the moment...plenty of this to tap into from a UK perspective.

Met Office have the latest obs for Gravesend at 31.9c

Is this confirmed? It's a couple degrees hotter than anywhere else.

On the broader point, there's huge and seemingly illogical differences around the whole country, with just 10-20 miles making big differences

Gravesend site has been criticised in the past due to the siting of the equipment near a hedge, this could be the reason why it is always that bit higher but until proven as inaccurate we have to accept the data.
