Some late maxes will be recorded today due to the fact that the plume is still growing in intensity. Parts of the NE Midlands and Northern England will record a huge climb in the next few hours.

34-35c being recorded in parts of central, eastern and NE France at the moment...plenty of this to tap into from a UK perspective.

11am and already a few areas where up to 27C, sunshine will follow to those areas and temps will shoot up.

I reckon close to 34C will be hit somewhere officially today.

32C will definetly be reached.

Starting to throttle down to 26.0 C with 69% humidity at this end. That will do very nicely but it's certainly going to be a sleeping-on-top-of-the-duvet-in-just-my-underpants affair tonight.

Maxed out at 29.4 here at 11am with a SSEly.

Wind has veered to SSW and temp is now 26.8.

I'm expecting a rare rise in temps this evening as the core of the plume arrives and the wind backs slightly towards SSE.

Incidentally, I've noticed temperature is on the rise again - 26.7 C.

EDIT at 5 pm: However, my weather station is now saying 25.0 C so it appears to be throttling back, but the humidity level is rising to 75% so it still feels oppressive anyway.

Here's quite a rare setup: Coastal Manston, surrounded by water on three sides effectively, a degree or so warmer than inland Gatwick! 😮

I should have known - western parts of NW England always do better in these set ups when an easterly wind is present - here in the eastern part of the region we are almost always 4-5C lower, whereas places like Blackpool, Liverpool, Crosby seem to be hotter with the offshore flow from the east.

On the broader point, there's huge and seemingly illogical differences around the whole country, with just 10-20 miles making big differences

I'm usually fine with 28c (as it is normally accompanied here with dewpoints of around 16c), this evening is a different matter..I am literally sweating here despite sitting perfectly still with a very cold beer in my hand..why ? because the dewpoint is fleeting between 19-20c !

Currently 28.3c and now rising again.

Wind has fallen light and is backing more SE'ly allowing the heat to build again.
