Another thunderstorm is in progress. This one is more "causal" in nature but quite prolonged with regular flashings and boomings.

Storm moving away now, it was never that close, a few miles to the east, raining though.

One of the biggest cracks of thunder I have ever heard. It felt like the house moved then !!!

A single roll of thunder stirred me from my slumber.

That was it though. So far, the biggest letdown since I can't remember when, with large numbers of strikes to the SW, NW, SE and NE but only that one occurence in Reading

Approaching 6:00am and still peels of what seems almost continual distant thunder mixed with a few much closer ones and outbreaks of heavy and occasionally torrential rain. This has been the most thundery night here for a good 10-20 years at least. Approaching an inch or 25 mm of rain too since midnight.

I really could do with some sleep.

Time lapse. It cleared up then all of a sudden after 2am it all starts. You can see the Plough and Arcturus. Then it looks like someone turns on a strobe light!

The biggest anticlimax in history! When will I learn to ignore the hype?!
I said the radar looked quiet, beyond that large cluster/supercell which hit the SE yesterday evening. My instincts were proved right.
The irony is the amber warning areas got the least whilst areas outside it did better. Lol.

The core of the MetO amber area seems to have had the least of it thus far!

The funny thing is that the radar forecast did show the rain as being more fragmented across C S Eng... and yet the warnings and pros did not convey this. My initial thoughts were ' we're going to miss these' but ultimately, I allowed myself to get sucked in with the hype. Always hit and miss - I know that - but I think it is fair to describle last night as a failure wrt the various warnings which were being issued by all and sundry.

Certainly seems like those on the periphery did quite well, but it was a bust for many central areas.

Lots of cloud crud around, so the chances of home-growns later today may be limited unless we get some decent breaks and the sun gets to work.
