All we can be certain of is that England's disatrous sporting year will be rounded off by a thumping for Team England and a pathetic medals haul. That's why I won't watch it.

Yo yo yo. 148-3 to the 3 to the 6 to the 9, representing the ABQ, what up, biatch?

Can't remember if I've asked before but am I the only one that can't stand womens boxing?
At least it will be mild!

Wow, 12 years since Manchester held the Commonwealth Games.

Where has that time gone?

I recall the uproar of the opening ceremony where they had a map of Australia without Tasmania! The Tasmanians were in uproar!

I thought Manchester was good... 2003? And they played the stone roses on the BBC outro of the closing ceremony.

I will be most disappointed if the Opening Ceremony doesn't include people dressed up as fried Mars bars.

I guess it must be just me that's looking forward to the Games. We're off to see the athletics next week and think it should be great.

From an economic standpoint it's a good advertisement for Scotland in general and Glasgow in particular. Hopefully, the £1bn regeneration will be added to in the months and years ahead. Indeed, it should be part of a wider strategy by the Governments of Scotland and the UK. But that's for another thread

From a competition standpoint it will be mixed (depending on the particular sport) in terms of standards.

After saying I've no interest, which I haven't in the sports, I did watch a fair bit of the opening ceremony. It should serve to kill off any remaining yes votes for Scottish independence, as on the back, of that they have no chance of being able to govern themselves. 😂

Ok, it wasn't THAT bad 😉

Looking at all the nations going through it's a reminder of how many of them earn money from tax dodging.

Did anyone see the irony of the UNICEF appeals during the opening ceremony in the host city that has the worst life expectancy in the UK?

Seemed to me like much of that opening ceremony was designed by a committee of suits sitting in London, brainstorming their best Scottish cliches. So we get Nessy, heather, kilts, shortbread and teacakes. Interesting to see if our Scottish members felt at all patronised by it...

I suppose the McBarrowman gay kiss was somewhat controversial, given that homosexuality is illegal in many of the nations that are taking part.

Interesting to see absolutely no mention of the historic heart of Scotland (Stirling) or it's third biggest city and economic powerhouse (Aberdeen) in their starting piece showcasing Scotland. Still from a cringeworthy perspective in hindsight it is probably better to be excluded!

I'm hoping the sport will be better. 😝

From a personal perspective it is nice to know that one of the pupils I taught 2 years ago is competing in the Games.
