Now we have the Tom Daly show on BBC1. FFS, the guy is like Beckham - a triumph of hype over substance. Neither man was/is anywhere near the best in their field, but somehow we think of them as "greats". Just show the bl00dy event BBC, give us a break from the US-style "poster boy"/"poster girl" pre-event hype. Another Stella and BBC News for me, 'cos I want to be scared about Ebola.

Daley's the current Commonwealth champ at individual 10m, a former World Champ, and twice European Champ. He got Olympic bronze, only a year after being hugely affected by losing his dad to a brain tumour.


He's one of the best divers in the world, and to try to claim otherwise is bizarre.

A lot of that comes down to having a particular sport in the early stages - in this case I suspect swimming had a decent Aussie medal haul. I did hear one Aussie on TV bragging a while ago about the medals - thats gone quiet now!
