Facepalm

Sure, a solar flare of sorts has indeed occured, and it may have some influence on the planet, but the extent of that is highly uncertain, and while the jet has been known to take a hike north following heightened solar activity, this is not a solid theory, and in any case, the overall activity has actually been on the low side in recent times.

On the other hand, a composite of recent GFS runs, and signals from ECM based on day 9-10 output does seem to suggest a notably warmer than average first half of August, so I suppose there is the potential for some heat... but no reason to anticipate anything near as extreme as the Express are yelling manically about.

It's not a shock forecast at all, it's exactly what I have come to expect from that paper

Interesting column in today's Times Newspaper. Paul Simon's weather eye summed up August as distinctly changeable throughout, with periods of rain, wind, and sunny spells. He also cited temperature wise it will be somewhat cooler than we have been experiencing. It is interesting to note he implied this forecast for the whole of August....

I see my 'friend' has now posted up his July forecast onto his website for evaluation   I'll say nothing atm (and probably best it is not discussed here - posting the link for info purposes only), but will probably mention it on my blog tomorrow

Edit: can't post the link, but you know whom I mean and where to look

Thought it unusual last night that Alex Deakin stated that summer is not over with us yet and expected fine weather to return by end of the month!!

The long range outlook on BBC News at 2155 suggesting increasing signs of high pressure trying to nose into the south by the bank holiday weekend giving somewhat warmer conditions. Could be quite cool at night though under clear skies.

We basically have another week or so of cool, showery and quite windy conditions with the winds coming from the N or NW. After that things may improve gradually for the last week of the month although that improvement may be restricted to more southern areas.

I was in Maidstone yesterday and what was noticeable was the river level still quite high around Allington, one to watch !
