No, I don't think August is any more special than any of the other 11 months, apart from it's when English schools have their summer holidays and most people take their family holidays, so we're likely to take more notice of the weather.  Every month can throw up surprises and break records and that's why the great British weather is so talked about.

Mind you, one handy thing about August/this time of the year is that everything is generally at "room temperature" for most of the time anyway, no matter if it is raining, cloudy or the sun is out and if the wind is coming in from the south west, north or east. A bit like today where I can be wearing shorts and be barefeet  Sriram-esque outdoors and indoors without feeling the chill (doesn't necessarily have to be blazing hot sunbathing conditions), although to be fair, the sea surface is now at its warmest so for now we have lost that "refrigerator effect. Whereas in March and April, even though the sun is increasing in strength and the sea is at it's coldest, there is always that keen nip in the air and thus I'm having to keep turning the heating on to get rid of that chill.

Special because it does not have to sunshine all day.  Not raining or to hot. Just in the 18c.-21c. Is just fine. Cloud cover stops the sunburn.. Quit happy doing things outside this type of weather. Shorts on or off....

Some people walk in the rain.
Others just get wet.

My shorts were folded away in my wardrobe a week ago after wearing them since late May - not the same pair of course and I did wash them regularly.  I'd be happy with temps around 20c but it's struggled to get beyond mid teens for a few days now and a stiff breeze has made it feel colder.

I am generally barefoot, Sriram-esqe style, from Spring to Autumn, but the shock of a drop of ten degrees overnight has almost driven me to dig my socks out this week.  I have managed to resist temptation thus far.

Maybe my shorts and strappy tops will come back out in September.
