Hey guys,

Not sure if we're going to be able to do the Winter 78-89 historic video tomorrow. Was up until gone 1am trying to get it recorded, but seems to be a problem with recording software.

Leave it with me and I'll see what I can do.

In the meantime, here's the Final Autumn Forecast video:

http://www.gavsweathervids.com

Quite an interesting autumn ahead, I think.

A mixed back in the charts but you would have to say probably a better winter than the sludge of last year - early days still

Many thanks for doing the legwork in pulling those early charts together for winter 2014. Much more convenient than having to wander the net looking for what might be out there.

All three models seem to have a constant theme of high pressure setting up somewhere other than over the Continent, which is all I ask for in a UK winter. I'd be perfectly happy with even the least exciting CFS set-up, which would at least guarantee no non-stop wet 'n' windy rubbish like last year.

Well, two or three times a decade it does, anyway.

I don't think we've had a winter as snowy as 1979 since (not England and Wales anyway)

2009/2010 may have been on a par for Scotland, but I think 1979 is still the last really snowy winter "down south"?

One of these years we'll get a 970mbr low pressure tearing through the channel with a couple of feet of snow and a 60mph gale force easterly wind blowing it into 20 foot drifts!

Hi Gavin,

very interesting video...1978/79 winter,I have great memories of that winter.

Intersting to note that in 1979 we saw a Major SSW event(wave two split vortex)earlier in Dec 1978,we saw a Canadian warming.

Cheers
