It certainly seems to be coming back to the boil after some time simmering.

There is quite a lot of recent activity concentrated around the rim.

Could this be evidence of increased caldera subsidence?.

well I'm not an expert but it appears that some quakes looks like they have some harmonic shake in to it...see today after 5:30pm...

An interesting article on the caldera subsidence, its a few days old now.

Yes that Costan Rican eruption is a baby compared with the size of the ongoing Icelandic one.

Bloody hell.

"Although the lava flow has reduced somewhat, it's still over 100 square meters per second, which equals the Skjálfandi river during summer time. The flow was immense in the beginning and was triple its current volume," states Ármann and adds that the lava flow covered 20 square meters of land per second.

the GPS station on the caldera has stopped working due to snow cover, so we dont know what is happening about subsidence

The lava field is estimated at 1million cubic kilometers! and the glacier is melting at 2m3 per second, or 172800m3 per day (which seems quite a lot).

What likely effects would these two factors have on local or global weather and climate in the longer term. Obviously unprecedented, so a guess, but worth hypothesising

Quite a lot indeed and all the fresh water flowing in to the ocean rigth midle of the upper arm of the golf stream the salmoura effect should be influnced by all that fresh water adtional melting...

If it were true, that volume would be the same as burying the UK to a depth of many kilometres?.

I think the erupted volume is currently about 1.5 cubic km or 1.5 billion cubic metres (although I cannot remember the source to verify that estimate!)
