It didn't take much, already this October is wetter than September.

Shows you how difficult it is to achieve driest months on record titles. It only takes one day to ruin it whilst wettest on record months, you have the luxury of accumulating rainfall totals throughout the month.

The last driest month on record title achieved was August 1995 for the 1766 rainfall series.

We have broken one January, two April and one June wettest records since then.

After that extremely dry September which saw just 6.5% of the LTA, the first week of October has brought back the above average totals, with 21.7mm to date being 135.5% of the LTA for 7 days of October.

This year has been all over the place on percentages of LTA rainfall - check out these values arranged in chronological order by month:

305.63       339.32       76.94       198.34       161.61       68.24       77.78       158.14       6.51

The wet months are dominating overall though, with 157.7% of the LTA for January to September.

That's down quite a bit from the Jan-Oct figure though, which was 179.7% of the LTA.

102mm so far. That is already at 106% of the October average for our location so even if it is dry for the rest of the month it will be a wetter than average month.

Current output seems to suggest that October could be a seriously wet month, with the models converging on the idea of some warm, moisture-laden air being drawn up from a long way south later next week.

That follows the potential for a soaker on Monday, depending on the track of a small, slow moving low pressure system. A lot of uncertainty with that one of course.

Eastern Scotland has already seen more than its average rainfall for the whole of October up to the 8th. 78mm compared to an October mean of 73mm.

10 days in and 10 times the rainfall seen last month - 42.0 mm to date which is 183.6% of the LTA for 10 days of October.

Today almost escaped dry here, but a torrential downpour turned up at 8pm and threw down 7mm in just 15 minutes.

Slow moving showers tomorrow could bring a repeat affair... or something more.

94.4mm for the first 10 days of this horrible October - 383% of average. All of it fell between the 3rd and 9th giving the 2nd highest weekly rain total I have recorded since 2005, the wettest being 109mm for 21st-27th October 2009.

Yearly total now 698.2mm - 136% of average. Already ahead of the full year totals for 2006, 2011 and 2013. Close to exceeding 2008's total as well.
