My time Iapse caught a bit of lightning last night over the Irish Sea. It really kicks off towards the end of the clip.

Also the moonlight catches the cumulonimbus building up from time to time.

After yesterday's interesting reports of tornados and funnel clouds in a number of areas, the risk persists today.
Having said that the primary severe threat is gusty SLW events associated with cells developing in the strong flow across the South and SE.
Directional shear may be enhanced by a trough crossing east to west so any cell rooted to the trough may exhibit close to surface mesocyclic rotation  - which can be given an extra push by topographical funnelling (such as occurs in the East Solent at times).

Been a noisy afternoon in Alton. Several storms have passed by in various directions giving torrential rain.

Sunshine and showers over London this afternoon. A very vivid rainbow viewed across the Thames from the office (unfortunately two layers of glass mean the raindrops intrude!)

Missed most of the rain today, storms passing by, just to the north, until now.  Several flashes of lightning and loud claps of thunder, almost overhead.  Max. rr/hr 192.0mm

While it has remained dry with good sunny spells the whole day at this end, it was the wind that has been the main feature. However, the lumpy cumulus stuff hanging over the Channel has now developed their own anvil tops and while they are moving away from my location, I may get to see a distant lightning show over the French coast after sun down.

Where you may have seen me mentioning about the possibility of seeing a distant lightning show over the Strait of Dover this evening, seems I've got it right as I did get to see a few flashes over the sea. It's nothing too dramatic but it's there.

i had occasion to go to lewes earlier this eve and the heavens opened there at about 5pm , then as i was leaving around 6.30 there was a thunderstorm and torrential rain , this lasted all the way back to uckfield 7 miles p the road . I then drove back toward eastbourne and drove out of it like a line was drawn across the road about 3 miles south of uckfield on A 22. however the thunder and lightning were intense and i see local guages in lewes collected nearly 30mm.
