Have a look at the rainfall return just now - there is a ribbon of heavy ppn leaving Dorset and affecting S Hampshire now that looks uncannily like the nexus from Star Trek Generations

Heads-up for an area of lively convection moving SW to NE in the early hours of Tues am.

I am expecting a surge of showery activity here at this end by the early hours/tomorrow morning once the frontal stuff has well and truly passed on. While there'll be some blustery stuff knocking about, I'm hoping to wake up to a photogenic skyscape littered with anvil tops of various age and size tomorrow morning.

Caught lightning just before dawn from cells to the SE of the Isle of Man! Miles away! You can see some flashes close to the horizon about 2.55s above the 10 on the timer.

Humdinger of a rolling thunderclap at about 3am

Just had a small but beefy "fly by" thunderstorm rattle over us, complete with big flashes, thunder that sounded like a Magnum .45 going off and a burst of hail heavy enough to settle on the lawn for a few minutes. It only lasted for all of five minutes but certainly made us jump onto our feet.
If only it is night time!

Thunder heard here in Worthing about 1/2 hr ago. Think running along the coast but as me and the kids didn't have coats was just trying to get home before any rain so didn't pay that much attention. The rain didn't materialise!!!

Some lively stuff in Chichester - couple of flashes and bangs, one right overhead last night. Then about 2pm today, a vigorous hailstorm, enough to turn the lawn white.

After yesterday's interesting reports of tornados and funnel clouds in a number of areas, the risk persists today.
Having said that the primary severe threat is gusty SLW events associated with cells developing in the strong flow across the South and SE.
Directional shear may be enhanced by a trough crossing east to west so any cell rooted to the trough may exhibit close to surface mesocyclic rotation  - which can be given an extra push by topographical funnelling (such as occurs in the East Solent at times).
