The medium height stratocumulus is burning away and thus brightening up as I type. Also feeling very mild at 14 C under a southerly breeze.

I concur.  It is the origins of the air mass that is allowing the early burn off.  Going to be a great day weather wise.

It seems that north of the rain band in Sutherland colder air just managed to creep in as a couple of my obs sites dropped to 4 or 5c. Currently above the rain band it is 6c in Lairg, south of it 14c on Oban.
